Once again another incredible year with so many wonderful contributions, from knitters, sewers, kit makers, heart makers, joiners, drop off spots and linkers in the community. Just an amazing effort from everyone and wonderful that you are all the drivers of this project and are thriving with it.

Where the blankets went
Over 2022 we donated to some new locations including Northern Domestic Violence, STARR, ARA, Afghanistan Association as well as the usual locations we donate to including: Treasure Boxes, APY Lands, Baptist Care, Unity SA, Anglicare, Adelaide Day Centre, Vinnies, Salvation Army (the full list of locations can be found on the KACS community project page here
Kay visited the SA Poverty event, a lovely blanket went to Josh from the Big Issue, a beautiful blanket was donated to CHATS, Treasure Boxes and many to Puddle Jumpers. Meeting Pam from Knit and natters, opened the way for some wonderful mutual exchange.
So many of your hubs (you know who your are) are producing the most amazing blankets and it’s lovely that they are being shared beyond our boundaries into Aged Care Facility in Alice Springs for Aboriginal people with dementia, also the APY Lands community through MPY Women’s Council, Galiwin’ku and Mapuru community in Arnhem Land. Jeannie in Brisbane, established her own hub, with Bribie Island Quilters, passing on their squares, to help form blankets for the Romeo Centre.
Special moments
And so many wonderful moments again throughout the year. Of course our visit to Betty at Murray Bridge Resthaven and running a zoom session from there. Attending the Afghanistan event and the world knitting day at Dulcie’s. We enjoyed another great day with Darn and Yarn at Cafe Outside the Square, and our raffled blanket (won by Debbie) also raised funds for the cafe.
It was wonderful to see the newspaper article with Catherine from William’s Wardrobe. An important article and message, sharing the wonderful work they do. Many of our blankets and other donations such as beanies, and socks have also been well appreciated.
RUOK day at Woodcroft Library, gathered many in the community and was lovely to be part of it. Then the gathering at FLAVA food and coffee, Christies Beach (one of our drop off spots) was wonderful. So many in that area contribute in many ways. A lovely gift to Maria from the Ukraine, a blanket she said she would treasure (thanks Kathy for the special Ukraine hearts). After the fires, donations to Uniting Care. And of course, the heart location, competition (I’m not sure if anyone got its location!).
Special notes
It is so lovely to receive the notes that highlights the many stories behind every aspect of this project. From those knitting squares, donating wool, receiving blankets, or no matter which, it helps us realise the magic of what this is all about.
So thank you once again to everyone involved… We can’t mention you all, however we hope in time, we hear more from you, your hubs, and your stories are shared on the Facebook page. We are really aiming to encourage this for 2023.
We look forward to continue throughout the year, and connect with others and offer support where we can. Next year, we will also be donating to Wrap with Love, and have already started collecting some blankets to pass on.
We will also be visiting some other states in Australia and hope to meet others who would love to be a part of this community wellbeing project.
