Winter Solstice Event 2021
A few months ago, we decided to do a sleep-out to raise food fare for those people in the community doing it tough. We asked Dorothy Barr (Soul / Evolutionary Astrology) when would be a good night, and what a great suggestion… the Winter Solstice.
We invited some of our other Community Volunteers (Fang from Meridian Connection Tai Chi) and Kay Mackenzie (Community Fitness Facilitator).
It was a great night, and we hope it is something we can repeat next year.
If you are interested in learning more about what this night can bring, we have condensed the night into this video. If you wish to listen to the full version (Dorothy brings a lot of the astrological connections into the discussion, then feel free to listen to the audio file below.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to enjoy a wonderful night.
Below is a collage of the expression from the night and our introductory poetic expression around the Winter Solstice Even
The Winter Solstice Gathering…Â
A time to put down some intentions moving forward…
Have a think about what you want to create…
A chance to go inwards…
Review and look at what we are comfortable,Â
It’s time to look at what we have to pull us through and do what we need to do, to survive
The solstice, bringing in the light…
the turnaround… the days get longer the nights get shorter… fire and light…
A celebration of the earth…Â
around the hearth.. the earth and the heart
About the natural world…
an honouring of the earth,
Remembering an innate connection with our natural connectionÂ
Solstice being open to new directions,
Are we ready to release some of our old ways…
It’s time for a vision for a better world…
a time to join a charity or something to help someone less fortunateÂ
An awesome time to move, to transform, to connect with earth, our heart, the sacred feminine…
Grounding – feet on the earth…
its up to us… just one person changes things
Tai chi was created from the observation of the between a crane and a snake…
Even though the stone is hard, the water slowly penetrates…
Softness over time, shows its strength
Tai chi is sensing yourself
It’s about grounding the self
Bring the thought back to the inner self
Re assess, revitalise, re set…
Animals hibernate – farmers take time to replenish
Today we don’t have time – we are busy..
we do everything fast…
I am grateful that I can see, I can hear, I have a body and I can move…
Take the time, to do the small things that can warm us up and feel nice for our body.
An awareness of gratitude for security of shelter and family and friends
For me it’s a great night to reflect and be ready for the new
To think about what matters
And what is the new I can bring
Usually I dread winter but this year I’m happy to connect with it and hibernate
Winter Solstice Sleepout
We arrive here tonight
From near and far
Sharing what’s common
Under the stars…
For us it’s the shortest day of the year
For many that brings – much cheer…
It’s our time tonight
To feel beyond ourselves,Â
From our hearts, in our bodies
Real stories to tell…
So, let’s buckle down,
And enjoy the gifts
Share, feel, express
And uplift…
On this cold brisk night
Stars and moon so bright,Â
Let’s enjoy astrology with Dorothy,
And energy with Kay, Mardiyah and Fang
Some music and mythology,
The deep hearted psychologyÂ
And whatever arrives,
We will survive –
Together in time
On this solstice nigh…
