Sway – poetic expression

This week the word was ‘sway’. So many ways to integrate this word. It took us on many journeys; being swayed to do something, the sway of body movement, the natural sway in nature.
Once again the opportunity to share feelings about how we receive words on the page. It takes us each in different directions, with stand out metaphors and lines, that impact us.
Our poetic expression session gives us a time to express, share and enjoy the moment.
The word next week is ‘dice’.
Let’s see where this goes!
Hope to see you there.

An island of oneself

listen to Peter’s poem here

I’m not sure what day it was
When I found myself in love with love
It’s not as if I had lost it somewhere
Like a set of keys or lyrics to a song
I suddenly became a serial lover
Attracted to my own intensity
Falling in love indiscriminately
To wonder later I did no wrong
Unable to register it was me
Moving constantly irresponsibly
Until I woke up alone
Unable to believe the harm
That my self-centred dreams had deceived
so many of my lovers needs
I never loved them
For who they were
I was a heartless hunter
Trapping snaring vulnerable hearts
Trophies to be hung on my unloving wall
Another episode in my romantic charm to sway
Through repeating so many selfish thoughts
Over and over endless ways of influencing
Constructing manipulating and persuading
To fulfil my drive to sate my craving to be loved
For it all to end in a crushing empty void
To have the butterfly of loneliness flutter
And sway in front of my consciousness
Today I fell out of love with love
I need to let go and accept even I can grow

The invitation

Come dance with me
Let the music move us
Hips flowing

Come lie with me
In the fields gentle breeze
Bodies glowing

Come walk with me
To the rhythm of our beat
Strength growing

Come sing with me
Feel the hum inside
Love showing

Come with me
Move with me
Sway with me

Which way

Walking askew in the street
A celebration, a life of turmoil? Would it be forthright to stop and help
Which way to sway could save their day

A storm so strong and vicious
Homes in darkness in fear of nature
The waves roar, battering winds appear
Which way they sway could save the day

The pendulum in a grandfather clock
Sways from side to side
Mesmerising at times
Every hour you can hear the chimes

See swaying in slow motion
So good to have a focus

Natural Sway

I used to be very shy,
I didn’t know where to put my hands when singing on the stage.
Everything felt so awkward.

One day, a friend told me,
let’s experiment.
First, make as many exaggerated postures as possible.
All the postures you’ve seen on TV.
Then do as little as you can.
Which version do you prefer?

I replied, the latter.
Then do that, he answered.
But that’s not what most singers do on the stage, I said.

But you are not them.
You are you.
Music is about feeling.
It’s about being you and making yourself feel comfortable.

What a moment.
I started to allow myself to be as minimal as possible.
And, sway with the rhythm when I feel like it.

Last week, another friend commented after seeing my performance,
You look so comfortable to be on the stage.
And I feel you sing from your heart,
not your head,
which is beautiful.

Joy.
Isn’t life always simpler than we thought?
I wish I could have known this much early on.
