Rock – poetic expression

‘Rock’ – so many ways this word can be used. So many expressions. Where does it take you? Perhaps you have a rock story, or have used it as a metaphor. There’s rock and roll music, you can get rocked by news, you can rock and sway, you can be as solid as a rock!
It took us in many directions and how wonderful that a word can do that to us. The metaphors and philosophies holding the energy of real life challenges.
These expressions often shed light on parts of ourselves, which gives us a small moment to ponder more deeply – and that can be healing.
Where does the word rock take you?
We hope you enjoy the poems.

The word next week is ‘draw’.
Hope to see you there.

Rock

Her love crossed the mountain
laid siege and destroyed
the rock hard walls
that protected my hearts flaws.

Out of the rubble, trust was re-born.

Rock a Bye Baby

With a gentle rock the baby settles
The energy of the sway
Comforts him beyond
what words could say

Heart to heart
The feelings grow
A bond so great
Seeds beginning to sow

Eye to eye his fear subsides
There is no need to hide

Souls connecting
Moments so dear
The spirit of love
Feels so near

Safe in arms
Touch that calms
Layers so deep
A trust to reap

When your heart opens up
It fills your cup
No rules to obey
Just feel your way

A Leaf’s Journey

I am a leaf with a big umbrella shape, so I am a bit heavier than a normal one.
Maybe that’s the reason why I think a bit differently too.
After staying with my mum for so long, I got very bored.
Every day, the sceneries I saw were very similar.
I really wanted a change.

So, I asked the wind, “Could you take me away, please? Anywhere. I am not picky at all.”
After my constant requests, finally, on a chilly late autumn afternoon, the wind brought me to a red rock.
Initially, I really loved this new spot.
The rock was so strong and solid, I felt safe and secure.
But after a while, I got bored again.
The view here didn’t change much either.

Luckily, on a summer night, there was a thunderstorm.
Without much preparation, the wind took me to a river nearby.
At first, I couldn’t adjust to this new environment.
It was so quiet here!
But one week later, I started to appreciate my surroundings.
The sound of the water was so peaceful.
Hearing that could always calm me down whenever I felt stressed.

But what I liked the most was its forever-changing scene.
At the beginning, I wanted to take control.
Swimming so hard, upstreaming, so I could choose where I wanted to go to.
But one day, I gave up. I was sick.
I really didn’t have much strength to fight, so I thought,
“Whatever. Let’s see what the river is going to take me to.”
Guess what?
That was the best decision I made in my life.
Life became much more fun, and much easier too.
Magical!
Every morning, I was curious to see where my new destination would be.
I ended up travelling to so many amazing places.
I saw the Li River, it was amazing because I could even see mountains in the water. It’s like a watercolour painting.
I also loved the Zambezi River, and its Victoria Falls were spectacular.
Oh, and I can’t forget the Caño Cristales River either, can you believe it has a rainbow colour?

Of course, there were some days when the views were just okay.
Same colour, same fishes, and plants.
But I tried to embrace that too.
I would spend more time resting during those times, because I knew something interesting would appear around the corner!
In the end, I arrived at the Nile River.
Then I saw something completely different.
I was told that was the ocean.
Speechless!
I felt,
this is my home.
