Find Your Way, Part 4… It is Within You

There is more to you
Than you currently do see
You are yet to know
The amazing gifts inside
That no longer want to hide
You may not realise it, however the things you once blamed yourself or others for, may be due to the habits you have formed, rather than from the choices that are available to you.

When I was young, I wasn’t exposed to the Italian language as a child, because my father chose to speak English at home. When I did attempt to speak, he  struggled to hear my attempts that often contained incorrect grammar, with sentences that made no sense. He told me with no uncertainty, how poorly I spoke the language, and this affected my confidence. I would freeze up when someone spoke to me in Italian. In time I avoided any attempt to communicate and believed I was unable to learn languages. This was the talk I carried with me for most of my life.

So how do you break the usual habits that arrive in the here and now, when this has been your common? Once again you work with what arrives. And as continue to discover this approach, new ways of seeing will arrive where you have the opportunity to do something different in those moments.

After my father passed away, I had a strong feeling and personal want to reconnect with and get to know my family overseas. To do this, it was important for me to speak the language. I had reached a time to face the block around my capacity to learn the language.

Discover what you want

When you find (or it finds you) the reason to let go of the stories you have carried with you or when you discover something that matters to you enough; something changes in you, which changes your next step too. It all begins to feel different. There is less resistance and new ideas come to the forefront. It is time to take it on!

Has there been a time when you had a change to the way of seeing?

I began to look for different ways to learn, using online platforms that I could do in my own time and own pace. I combined learning phrases with Duolingo and Memrise. I began listening to Italian music and speaking out loud using common Italian phrases. I began to understand what I needed to learn the language and felt the joy of being able to speak a little more than I have ever done before.

The thing is, life will pass you by anyway, so without you doing what you want (when you discover what that is!), you’ll remain in the default, based on how your life circumstances have unfolded.

Is there something you would like to pursue?

There is more to you than you realise

As you notice and bring out the contradictions between what has happened in your life and the stories you have been telling, you can draw upon your own lived experience as evidence.
I realised that I was capable of learning a lot of things, so why wouldn’t I be able to learn a language. Why wouldn’t I be able to write to express my feeling and how I see the world. In time my talk changed to ‘I am writing blogs’ and ‘I am writing a book’, ‘I am learning to speak Italian’.
Often you don’t know what you are capable of, so when the opportunity and time arises, it will only be by taking the leap and doing something different, that you can discover something else.

It is important to draw from an important fact and that is you are alive and living with the complexities that life today brings, which already shows how you have more capabilities than you may give yourself credit for.
I worked with a man who spent the first 30 years of his life, living as what he termed ‘a couch potato’; very unfit, taking on an unhealthy lifestyle that was common in his family. He believed that exercise was not for him, until a health situation, led him to exercise. During that time, he discovered he had the physical capacity of an elite athlete. He went on to become a multiple World Iron Man Champion.
Undiscovered parts (including your beliefs and any aspect of your personality, your physiology, your genetics) greatly impact your own reality and ability to see things differently; to see the whole picture in it all.
In the case of this World Iron Man Champion, he may never have discovered his potential if he had kept telling the same story about himself.
This is the case for many of us in some aspect of our lives.
In 2011, when I changed my ‘I can’t write story’, I produced 3 small books; Just a Thought, 100 ways in 100 days, What Came to Be When I Began to See.
In 2013, I then shared about the journey of my own cancer journey and that of my husband at the time, in a book titled ’22:44 Our Hidden Gift’. My expression had begun.
Look back, is there something (no matter how big or small) that you achieved that you never thought you could?

The undiscovered

There are reasons for not taking the opportunities when they arise.
Firstly we may not actually know them yet. When we have not considered this as a possibility, we are likely to stay in the default of what we have always done.
When we choose to look for ways to discover more about our life and existence, there is so much more to draw from.
During COVID when we established the community events calendar, and volunteers offered their services, one elderly community member decided to participate in the ‘’Cooking for one’ sessions, which meant lots of learning about zoom and other technologies. This choice, opened up new opportunities. She later joined our online poetry sessions and over time, she discovered her love and gift for writing poetry. This love expanded her in ways she never imagined.
It seems we are now realising something else; that we can navigate things differently.
If you are sensing that deep down, there is more… like so many people in the world today, you have an opportunity to discover that.

Things are becoming more overt in the world today, which is helping people at this time, to challenge the words, messages, actions and intention, not only in their own lives, but also from our leaders, and others we have held in high regard.
More than ever, we are seeing in plain view, the contradictions between what is said and done.

It seems that we have been lacking an ability to see things as they are…

So what is the reason for that?

As we begin this journey, you will better recognise how we can no longer see things as they are, because of your mind’s distractions and the automatic pilot that is running your life.

For many of us, the heart, body, and spirit is sitting in the background, where insights and information are no longer within reach.

This journey helps you to better understand how and why this has happened, but more importantly, how to ‘find your way’ to bring the balance of your whole self ( HMBS heart mind body spirit) to where you can navigate your life with care, clarity and deeper happiness.

Are you open to bring more balance back to your life?

Take your time to sit on the views, and explore what opens up to you.
