Dice – poetic expression

This week the word was ‘dice’. Once again, it led to the expression of a variety of thoughts and issues.
It’s interesting to hear the way in which the poem or story arrived. For some it is a memory, some it relates to what is currently happening, some a belief or concern of some sort.
No matter what it is, it is aways varied and interesting, often cathartic and healing.
Poetic expression provides an outlet to lighten our load by drawing out what is happening in our internal world.
A sharing of appreciation.
The word next week is ‘mask’.
Let’s see where this goes!
Hope to see you there.

Eyes right

listen to Peter’s poem here

Let’s roll the dice again
Who knows how it will end
My eye shows a blemish
The colour an unusual reddish
Basal, squamous or maybe a melanoma
I need an expert opinion for this drama
Off I travel to hear my diagnosis
The specialist will have a prognosis
He is very precise
And it’s not very nice
“You have a squamous carcinoma”
Thankfully it’s not a melanoma
Surgery will be required
Local anaesthetic will be applied
Followed by chemotherapy drops
For no longer than three months tops
Now fully recovered
It’s been discovered
A cataract is in my other eye
It’s enough to make an old man cry
I can’t wait for another incision
To give me back some normal vision
So I can continue on with my love of reading
To lose my eyesight was something I was dreading

Ruled by the dice

Life in the hands of the dice
It’s a gamble
Can’t help the pull
Like sucked into a vortex
Too hard to resist
One part excitement one part dread
Hooked on the cocktail
Smells smoke whiskey
Lights noise action risky

Waiting…
heart stops
Can it be
7 or 11
Onlookers arrive…
They know to survive
It must be a… oh no a 2!
What now
Don’t have a clue

No way to live life
Desperation rife
Hope and pray
That maybe some day
Things will be OK

The importance of us

It’s dark in this box
How refreshing the lid’s lifted
We are a team you see
My partner and me
The centre of attention
Is how we work
Snake eyes, double six
You name it we are there
The game begins, how exciting
Shaken, then rolled, or is it stirred?
Ouch, that hurt, on the table we land

On we roll around the board
Without us there would be no score
Working our little dots off
Shining with importance
Our numbers are crucial
We are the main event you see
Father is grumpy, such a sore loser
It is exhausting trying to please

Packed back in the box
It’s time for a breather
Till next time when the dice is rolled
For now we take a bow

My life dice

As a child, I liked to throw a dice with my peers, because I like mysteries, witnessing who was the lucky one to buy lotteries was always fun.

However, as a grown up, I got to know that I can’t just rely on my luck to make a living. I need to work hard to improve myself so I can become more employable.

But is that enough?

Only a few years ago, I found out I missed the most important factor. If the direction is wrong, it’s going to be a waste of my time and energy. Because my heart won’t be happy.

So I’ve learned to start to use my ears to only listen to the voice coming from my heart.

Will I be rich by doing that? I don’t know, because my life dice plays a role too.

But I am going to stick to it anyway, because at least I can tick off the most important box, my heart is going to be happy.

She is my soul, the reason for me to keep living in this world as a child.
