Mask – poetic expression

This week the word was ‘mask’. Once again, it led to the expression of a variety of thoughts and issues.
From the symbolic to the metaphoric, the use of masks in various forms. It certainly brought up some contemporary issues related to our world.
Such a wonderful way to express your feeling and thoughts about things that matter. And sometimes it’s just a wonderful creative outlet, to have fun with and get a sense of satisfaction.
Hope you enjoy this week’s expressions.
The word next week is ‘glass’.
Let’s see where this goes!
Hope to see you there.

Mask

listen to Peter’s poem here

Storytellers masking their essence
Allowing the gods a mortal presence
Ink and paint to decorate
Clay porcelain even imitate
Portraying hidden magic portents
Displays of cultural historical importance
Tribal superstitions traditions myths and legends retold
Exorcising evil spirits from evil souls
On and on masks have been maintained
It’s a wonder how so many have remained
Now bare faced lies are constantly viewed
On social media: so many facts are misconstrued
Masked in memes and avatar graphics
Even altering self-images with photo-shop magic
Masks of deception proliferate
Scammers imitate and manipulate
AI designers fighting to seduce the crowds
By constructing stories from meta-data clouds
The newest mask in the mirror of control
Will it replace our intuitive human soul?
Storytellers masking their essence
Allowing the gods a mortal presence

The Mask

First concealer
Moisture keeps it sealed
Then foundation
Perfect cover
Blemishes gone
Sinus rings gone
Bruising gone
Age spots gone
Freckles gone
Wrinkles gone

Amazing!
I can now walk out concealed
Will anyone know
Now that it doesn’t show
About the true me

I’ve done it!
I now fit in
Accepted
Liked
Revered
Acknowledged
Admired

Success…

No… Broken

The Real Deal

That horror show on TV
Has left quite an effect on me
Sleep I dread as I head off to bed
And pull the covers over my head

Toss and turn as I try sleep
The clowns are everywhere
The same mask staring at me
Wicked and horrid is what I see

There under the bed, on the ceiling
My head is full of clowns with masks
The heart is pounding, as I wonder
When will I find some slumber?

No more horror movies for me
The only clowns I wish to see
Are the happy smiling kind
Masks removed, painted faces for me

Courage behind the mask

At the debrief session,
I hesitated.
Shall I wear a mask and pretend that I enjoyed everything or shall I?

Shall I be courageous while maintaining my sensitivity and politeness?
Shall I just state the facts and tell people my honest feelings without blaming others?
Shall I be true to myself and improve for the better?

I chose to make a hard move,
to follow my heart‘s rhythm.

Nerve-racking but I am also proud in the end.
Proud of my own growth.
And I believe that the right people will understand and appreciate.
Because only when we are being our truest selves,
we can connect to those who have the similar values.
And till then, the law of attraction will start to show up.
