Bamboo Forest
Walking through the forest
Lines of tree trunks
Stand like soldiers
In the breeze
Sturdy and proud
With cloud like light
Filtering through to delight
I pause in awe
Look up from
Nature’s floor
And wonder why
You can stand so high
From here to the sky
I can see
The many things
That you can be
Dear bamboo tree
You are the reeds
Found in homes of those in need
And the food used to flavor so many cuisines
And the cloth to protect, to warm and cool
And the tool to use as a biofuel
And the fiber used for furniture and goods
An ornamental plant
Used in gardens and woods
With roots so deep
Protecting riverbank steeps
You certainly are
A state of the art
Incredible plant!

Majestic
i didn’t know you could carve bamboo
as I read on I discover how it is done
such skill and precision I so admire
patience, the stillness of the hands
slowly creating a shape I see
a graceful butterfly before me
to witness such a craft i am in awe
Marvel at the expertise
no harsh thorns here, i linger to absorb
complete mastery and beauty at it’s finest

Bamboo (竹子)
As a child, I liked
to eat bamboo shoots for their crunchy texture,
to listen to the bamboo flute—gentle, peaceful—
it brought me back to the forest, purified my soul.
I also enjoyed lying on a bamboo bed, counting stars on summer nights.
Touching her made the heat feel bearable.
Now I realise—
I can learn from her, too.
She grows rapidly—30cm a day—but only after four quiet years.
Before that, you barely see her.
How patient she is, quietly preparing,
Never rushing or doubting.
I want to be like her.
She reveals her nodes clearly to all.
Maybe when we live with transparency and integrity,
life flows more easily.
She adapts.
Always standing straight—
yet when strong winds come,
she bows her head
and survives.
A great reminder:
Be soft, be flexible—
as long as we don’t forget our core values.
She stays evergreen.
Simple.
Maybe appearances don’t matter to her.
So she focuses on inner growth.
Or maybe,
she’s proud to be consistent,
unapologetically herself.
Thank you
for being you
