On the Inside
Here it comes
It begins with annoyance
Then the chatter
So illogical
But it doesn’t seem to matter
It creeps up and feels
Like a well overflowing
And before long
It’s taken over
Without my knowing
How was I hijacked?
I’d later say
Such a mystery
Why it happens
That way
Now as I sense it
Happening to me
I’m more aware
And can truly see
That the best way is to let it happen
and say it as it is
The feelings and thoughts
That are getting me into a tizz
This change is a start
That can help me out
To release the pressure
Rather than silently shout
And as the prickles fade
I give myself the space
To discover how
To avoid the rat race

A Dark Day
My eyes glazed over as I heard the yelp
Ran through a prickly hedge
To see if I could help
There was a car hissing by the fence
A dog lay on the road definitely past tense
The owner Mrs Withers lives at number two
Struggling through the mushy mud
She almost lost a shoe
Tearful and distraught, her mind is all askew
So I console her under my umbrella
It’s the best that I can do
