Can you help me?
I read a story this morning
About a cat whose owners left him behind
When they moved out
He somehow found his way to a neighbour house
Not with a shout
Rather a gentle paw on the glass door
He visited each day
The look in the cat’s eyes
Did gently say
I am in need
Of a cuddle and a play
When the neighbour found out
About his plight
And invited him in
To stay the night
They soon became close friends
Each there for the other
Fun love and laughter
For ever after
So it’s suffice to say
Don’t turn away
Because if you dare
Open your door to care
You might find a friend
Who’ll be loyal to the end

Me, Myself and I
the candle flame glows
bouncing shadows off the wall
interesting shapes
and a feeling of calm
as I lay alone with my thoughts
i gaze at the wax
forming on the glass
drift back to the day
when things were so different
how wonderful to have experienced
the extent of such emotion
for loved ones along the way
excitement of the present day
the dentist tomorrow
the doctor a must
housework to do
Imperative i dust
the market on Thursday
Dad’s birthday next week
so much to think about
now I just want to sleep
my mind is in a muddle
as the flame flickers
my lids lower
the shadows are gone
a gentle silence
brings me peace
lying in the darkness
i drift off to sleep

Caught in a Muddle
Shall I pay for her?
A simple question,
but for me,
it’s not.
In Australia,
you split bills:
clear and fair.
Back home, in China,
we don’t.
When a friend visits your city,
you are the Dongdaozhu 东道主,
the host,
the one who pays.
So what should I do?
I am in Australia,
but still Chinese.
Caught in between.
In a muddle.
Do I want to pay?
I’m not rich.
We’re not close friends.
I paid last time.
She only reaches out
when she needs something.
Or when she visits me.
But,
we do have good chats.
So what should I do?
Caught in between.
In a muddle.
I bought her coffee and dessert to share,
not her breakfast.
A compromise.
An in-between choice.
But still,
I feel strange.
Am I stingy?
Or just learning,
next time,
when I am caught in between,
in a muddle,
to be braver,
to live from my heart,
and to trust
these wrinkles
will get ironed
eventually.
