Meander. A great word that took us on a journey. Where does it take you?
Once again, it took us in different directions, and it was lovely to have the opportunity to express in words, memories, imagination, feelings from what lies inside.
If you would like to explore where words and language can take you, we’d love you to join in with our discussions.
Next week’s word is ‘voice’.
Hope to see you there.

Four Brothers
Â
There were so many stories flying by
Family lies and family ties meandering
Memories shared maybe even ones contrived
to suit the actual moments implied
on what was real or mere impressions.
Did any of these situations really have,
a basis of factual representation?
Or did they just fall out of each other’s imaginations?
Today we were again children together
constructing our long lost stories
that manifested in sharing our confessions.
Trying maybe to finding a purpose with an ending.
Yet no ending will be satisfied
for these four brothers will move on.
Our journeys each so profound
will be forever connected to our childhood town.
A place where our mother and father
set the tone and music of our future lives.
Combined together our three hundred odd lived years
we will never cross that river of time
that separates our individual needs

Meander or Highway
I used to like to seek other people’s advice, especially the elders
Because they are older, they must be wiser
I could then get to my destination, being successful faster
Have a good career, earn enough money to buy a car, a house and go shopping without checking the price tags
However, one day I noticed
I didn’t enjoy this highway anymore
Even the second of it
Everything seemed so boring and mundane to me
What should I do?
I can’t remember how many days have passed
Finally, I made a big decision
My first time
Without getting the advice and my family’s approval
A meander is the answer
A path fewer people walked
Scary?
Yes
But also, exciting and liberating
I only need to focus on what I can see every single day now
Follow my curiosity and intuition
Pulling through the leaves, flowers, thorns and grass while walking on this winding road
And having the patience to see my path unfold little by little
One day I would look back
Smile and say to myself
What an interesting life
I
Have lived!

Young Girl
The young girlÂ
Freely wanderedÂ
Around her neighbourhoodÂ
Because she could…Â
She visited her friendÂ
Just to say helloÂ
Went down to the creekÂ
It wasn’t far to goÂ
Stayed til her spaceÂ
Became a crowded placeÂ
Wandered through uncertain terrainÂ
Never had to explain
Met some new people on the blockÂ
They had 13 kids, now that was a shockÂ
Then, as the sun dimmed
It gave her a signÂ
That it was timeÂ
To meander back homeÂ
So as not to endure
her parents’Â groan
Or lose the rightÂ
Or need to fightÂ
For her freedom…Â
The freedom to
Face both the darkÂ
And the lightÂ
One moment in aweÂ
Curious with delightÂ
Next in frightÂ
With breath so tight
This up and down rideÂ
Is not to hideÂ
Or adjust or controlÂ
Just to move with and growÂ
To experience the ebb and flowÂ
And to know…
You cannot fallÂ
So stand tall
And enjoy it all
