Thank you to everyone who contributed in some way to getting these beautiful blankets to those in the community in need in some way. This year we received squares from all over Australia including WA, Canberra, Victoria, NSW. In time, we hope to establish some Knit a Care Square locations in these states too!
2025 Summary
Another thank you to the hubs and community This year once again reflected an amazing effort from so many.
2025 KACS directly donated 793 blankets (+ not included in this tally; Knit a Hug 123 blankets and Bribie Island 15, plus many more not recorded)
We thought we’d share some messages (their own words) and updates, from some hubs we collaborate with…
‘This year we have completed another 133 blankets for Knit a care square.
Thank you to the people who send along their squares. Word is spreading as we have had squares from as far away as Goolwa and Riverton as well many of our local knitting groups.
We enjoy joining them into blankets for those who need a little warmth and comfort.
Our contribution can be big or small but together we can make a difference.’ Thanks Silvia, Jenny and Co.
‘This year 120 children’s blankets, 71 pram blankets, 3 single blankets (plus 173 beanies, 20 scarves, mittens, slippers and more!) were passed on to Puddle Jumpers. Amazing effort the group.’ Thanks Jill, Rose, Judy, Chris, Karen, Robyn, Anna, Nulla, Wendy, and Co.
” It’s great that I can give comfort to some one, young or elderly by knitting and joining squares which became a blanket, warmth and comfort! ” Janene
‘Who would have thought that we would still be joining, after six years, keeps us busy when watching the tv,and hoping that someone has benefited, from the blankets’ Pat and Janet😀
‘I enjoy being part of a team that makes blankets for knit a care square. Titia makes the kits, I join the sqares and Judy finished the edges. We make a variety of great blankets (about 65 this year). They are finished with bright ties from the prisoners.’ Sue
I knit squares and also crochet around the edges of blankets which have been joined. It’s very satisfying to see them completed and I admire the creativity and diversity of the knitters and the knitters. There is always a need for providing warmth and comfort to others. “ Judy
My involvement with KACS has evolved over the time I have been contributing, I began as a joiner then did some crocheting and now I crochet, join, kit and edge which gives me variety.
‘This year I’ve also been co-ordinating contributions from neighbours in my new retirement village and it’s been rewarding helping others enjoy contributing to the community.’ Audrey
“Great oaks from little acorns grow” A great feeling knowing that each individual stage we do helps to make our wonderful blankets, always made with love. Marg
‘This year we donated 15 rugs to The Bribie Island Community Centre who provide a range of community services and an Emergency Relief Program. It’s been a warm year and so knitters are finding rugs and blankets a bit too hot to work with. We have knitted and sewn dozens of little teddy bears and dolls for donation also, mostly to the Care Kits for Kids charity. They have had a few of our smaller rugs.’ Margaret

How these blankets come together
Thank you
Knitting squares: To all the people who have knitted or crocheted squares. To the individuals and the groups! Too many to mention you all. A few though, Pasadena Village Knitting group, Knit Wits, Karidis Craft Group.
Sewing in ends: Making the joiner’s job easier! Thank you everyone! Just to name a few, Janene, Di, Chrissie
Kit designers: So many of you make squares and design your own. Others work with the squares received. Just to name a few; Margaret, Gloria, Titia, Jill
Joiners: To so many who are taking on this role, thank you! Where a simple square becomes a beautiful blanket. To the new joiners thank you. Too many to name, but to name a few; Gwen, Meredith, Carol, Judy, Audrey, Janene, Talma, Linda, Mignon, Janine, Dragica, Elise, Di, Donna, Dianna, Sue Edom… If you’d like to become a joiner, let us know here.
Blanket Edgers: Some take on the role of crocheting a beautiful border. Thank you
Wool donations: So many people donate wool they may choose not to use anymore. Thank you for generously sharing.
Heart Makers: Many of you crochet your own hearts to place on the blankets. Thank you. And many of you receive the heart that Kathy Bryker has produced (in droves! Thank you). If you want to learn how to make hearts, visit here.
Blanket ties: We know many also produce their own, thank you. Then there are those who donate a heap with their square drop off. Then there are people like Sarah and Kathy who make heaps and keep us going.
Drop off spots: to all the businesses, homes and other locations, who have offered their locations. You have made the process possible. Many thanks. If you want to know about these spots, visit here.
Pick ups: To the many people who offer to pick up from locations, either drop off spots, or homes, carparks, or other places to make it all flow! To name a few; Meredith, Gloria, Kay, Linda, Sarah, Maggie
Online Zoom: While we didn’t have online zoom this year, if you have an interest in getting together (for example every month), let us know and we can organise it. Contact us here.
New hubs / hosts: To people who have opened up their homes, or worked from community locations. Those of you who have gathered people in ‘real life’. It is a lovely way to share this. To name a few: Gwen, Sarah, Baptist Church St Marys,
Swipe cards: To everyone using their drakes community tag, raising funds for KACS!!! With the funds raised (last year it was around $300) we purchase the blue joining wool that we add to the kits for joiners. Every bit helps! We aim in most instances to purchase our signature blue colour that seems to compliment most blankets – if available or suitable. If you would like a Drakes Community Swipe Care, and don’t currently have one, contact us here.

While we do photograph every blanket on our Facebook page, we know that some people are not on Facebook, so we hope this is a way to include and share from more people.
Memorable moments
Some memorable moments throughout the year included;
So often we donate to people directly on the street. On one of our Walk and Talk events we run every fortnight in the City of Adelaide, we saw one of our blankets safely protected in the Southern Parklands. It felt comforting to know the blankets were reaching those in need.

Last year, Kym from Roma Mitchell School engaged a project that had their students (with the help of teachers and parents), learn to knit and crochet and produce their own squares! This year, Meredith did a great job joining the blankets. They are pictured in the second row.
Kathy had a last plan mat that was donated to Baptist Care. It was a great project for making use of plastic bags. We hope they last a long time… And hopefully we can move away from plastic bags for ever!
Once again some special arrivals of many over 90 year olds knitting squares!! Truly a blessing to have you involved.
