In the Hollow
When the wind and tides are rightÂ
The surfers come outÂ
And to the delight of theÂ
crowdsÂ
They put on an incredible showÂ
With precision they read the oceanÂ
They time it perfectlyÂ
Getting on the boardÂ
In a time and wayÂ
That has them playÂ
With wavesÂ
Through the hollow like a pipeÂ
Creating an intensity and hypeÂ
With unbelievable balanceÂ
From the years of practiceÂ
Of doing what they loveÂ
The ocean and board fits like a glove
You can you see itÂ
Like poetry in motion!

Winter Blues
Looking out at the tide
Feeling hollow inside
This day has not been good
I have not felt as I should
The thought of winter
Turns me inside out
It feels like zero in the air
The chilled wind I cannot bear
Pull the blanket tight around my neck
Not wanting to step out from my bed
What is it about this weather
Some love it, some loath it
A day closer to summer I say
To hold that thought
Helps me through the day
Oh, is that spring in the air
Looking out at the tide
Feeling warm inside

Zero
Accompanying myself on the piano
Feels like starting from zero.
Do I know some?
Yes, I do.
But I can’t just pick a random tune—
Like breathing, play it right through.
That’s why I still feel like a beginner.
Yes, it can be frustrating,
Sometimes discouraging,
But even a master starts from nothing.
And I am young.
Life is long.
As long as I’m learning,
That’s where I belong.
This year, I’ll try something new—
Follow a book, see it through.
Play with a metronome—tick, tock, tick,
Thirty minutes—let this rhythm stick.
And next year, come June thirty,
Maybe I’ll be
Zero point one,
Or point two—
Not a pro, but getting through.
And honestly? That’d be cool.
