Time to Mourn

The last time I saw him
On the hospital bed
No colour to his skin
Many tears I did shed

We had said our goodbyes
So much more to say
We can never know
When it is our last day

And just like that
His life force faded
We remained in shock
Felt completely jaded

No words can explain
The type of pain
That comes with knowing
You’ll never see them again

Suffice to say
To my surprise
He chose cremation
Not sure his reasons why

There was a beautiful mass
To share his life story
All the ups and downs
The pain and the glory

Then from body to ashes
Placed in a copper urn
He rests in a garden
It was his turn

We are all in a line
Though we do not know
When it’s our last breath
And time to go

Tension Rising

Tension Rising

the first test match in 1882
was lost by the home team
devastated to loose their dream…

a mock obituary was written
in the ‘Sporting Times’
so was born a small trophy
it’s only four inches tall!
believed to contain
the ashes of a cricket bail
or burnt remains of a lady’s veil
I thought it was made of copper
but no they say it’s terracotta
the original is held at Lord’s
so small but what a thrill
for many devoted followers
all over the world

as the final game continues
it’s nine for three twenty two
eleven runs to win the match
one over to go the tensions flow
as the bat clicks the ball
the empire signals-four!
i feel the bumps rise under my skin
as I scream for my team
and hope they will win
to feel the pride and tell the story
of such a small urn and all it’s glory
