harvest…feast…cherish… Poetic Expression

harvest…feast…cherish…

What words stands out for you? Where does it take you?

Hope you enjoy these expressions. Once again one of the poems tells a tale using all 3 words! The poet brings all the words together in an incredible way. Hope you enjoy it.

Visit our events calendar for the sessions, that take place on the first and third Monday of the month.

Hope to see you at a session…

Next fortnights’s words are: crooked…proud…repulsive…

Connection

It was a night in September
When the harvest moon
Shone more brightly than ever
That the farmers cleverly
Used the extra light to give them more time to do their work

It gave rise and thanks
And appreciation for the simple things
Like the light, the sun and rain
That helped them produce
What was needed
To survive and thrive

Such cycles back in the day
Gave people the moments
to play and connect
With nature’s way

They would use
the growing darkness
through the winter months
To go within, reflect and ponder
What might be next and yonder

Suffice to say
It seems we have moved away
From interacting with nature’s brilliance
That has helped build
the planet’s Resilience…

So don’t give up
There is a way
In the small things
You can do each day
Like look beyond the stars
Feel the energy of the moon
Give thanks for what the day brings
And move away from the gloom…

Invaluable Time

Mum is in the kitchen
Cooking up a feast
Excitement in the air
We are off to the local fair
Farmers gather from all around
The finest produce to be found

Dad is known for his quality lamb
Mum for her best sponge
They always give me sixpence
For helping on the land
Imagine my surprise
When a shiny new shilling
Is placed in my hand

A definite shot at the spinning wheel
To win a prize for mum
A must have hot dog of course
Meet my friends have lots of fun

It is almost dark
As we head off home
Weary and energy spent
Dad won third prize
And happy with that
Mum is beaming,
Wearing a blue-ribbon
On her best hat

We approach our land
And what do I see
The most magnificent harvest moon
in front of me
Shining over our house and farm
As if protecting it from any harm

It is precious to cherish memories
of a past era in time
Now I am old and reminisce
How exquisite to call it mine
